Dream about a tongue

A tongue in a dream is the threshold where your inner life meets the world you inhabit. This bridge carries the weight of your commitments and the integrity of what you allow to pass through you. When you find this symbol appearing, you are often encountering the tension between the impulse to express and the necessity of containment.

The way you speak is failing to match the shape of your own truth, leaving you to feel as though your words are no longer your own. This dream can point toward a period where the way you testify to your own life feels unstable or heavy. You might find that the clarity you seek through speech remains just out of reach. The capacity to hold your own truth is being tested by the very tools you use to share it. The weight of what remains unsaid can sometimes feel as heavy as the words you choose to release. Your ability to honor your own word is what allows the bridge to hold.

A swollen tongue in a dream suggests that your capacity for expression is becoming burdened by an excess of feeling or an inability to digest your own experiences. The fullness of this sensation indicates that the words you need to say are pressing against the limits of your control, making the act of speaking feel clumsy or overwhelming. This heaviness turns the dream of the tongue into a struggle with the sheer volume of your own internal life.

The act of cutting off a tongue in a dream means that your agency in the world is being violently severed. If this happens to you, it suggests a fear of being silenced by external pressures, where your ability to assert your own truth is stripped away before it can complete its work. This loss of agency changes the dream from a matter of choice into a confrontation with a sudden, forced emptiness.
